I have lived in the neighbourhood of Devonshire Heights in Windsor for 32 of my 35 years alive. Growing up in this neighbourhood was always a safe place. We could go anywhere with our friends and never worry. One of these places we would always go for walks or ride our bikes was Devonwood Conservation Area. 

Devonwood conservation area is a beautiful place in the city that people can go to enjoy nature and take in the scenery nature has to offer. There are many paths that connect to our neighbourhood and also a parking lot that people can also park their cars and enjoy the woods. Although the parking lot is used for much more sinister things than this. 

Most recently my fiancé and I decided to get ice cream and go here after our date night. Once there things took a turn for the worst. So much so we left and called the police because we didn’t feel safe there. Visible out for everyone to see is prostitution, drug use and distribution and people meeting for sexual encounters with other individuals looking for the same thing. 

This has been an ongoing issue. Calls have been placed to ERCA to fix the parking lot light, our councillor and the police. Recently I’ve also reached out to our local news with no answer. I’m tired of being ignored and I believe something needs to be done here before someone gets hurt and our future can enjoy this park.
