Allow Chickens Within Winder, GA City Limits

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

Hi everyone! My family and I have recently moved to Winder, and love it here. We were surprised to learn that chickens are not allowed within city limits. I know this has been a source of contention in the past, however, I’m proposing that the issue be revisited. Many surrounding cities do allow chickens with certain limitations. I’m proposing the city council to allow them with the following limitations:

-No roosters will be allowed of any kind

-Chickens must be kept in a coop or fenced in backyard

-Limitations on the number of chickens based on household size or acreage

Self sustainment is the future of this country. I believe we should encourage that. Cities such as Auburn and Jefferson both allow chickens. We should encourage gardens, greenhouses, bee keepers, and chicken coops. These allow our local townspeople to provide for themselves and reduce their carbon footprint on this planet.

I’m meeting with the planning committee of the Winder City Council on January 25th at 6pm in the Winder Police Department building. I’ll be presenting signatures then and I invite you to join me. Thank you!
