Lillian Smith started this petition to Winchester City School Board and

As many of you may know, the decision to renew the contract of beloved Principal Mike Dufrene is currently up in the air. Words cannot express how shocked and saddened I was to hear this news. On behalf of all Handley students, I'd like to say that this is not what the Winchester Public School System needs, especially in this time of uncertainty. Although the Winchester City School Board would like to believe that he will be easily replaced, I can confidently say that they are wrong.

Principal Dufrene has done nothing but good for Handley students since his arrival, so forcefully removing him makes zero sense. Though challenging in a large public school system, from the start, he genuinely wanted to get to know each and every one of us. We weren't just numbers or statistics to him; we were his Handley family.

However, his actions spoke louder than his words. Whether he made it known through a simple conversation about your day in the Commons or through a high five at your home tennis match, his presence and support for us was obvious. He was there for us through thick and thin. More importantly, though, he wanted us to succeed and be the best versions of ourselves. I couldn't have asked for a better Principal!

The School Board is supposed to act on behalf of the students, so maybe they should listen for once. If you disagree with the decision made, sign this petition to show your love and support for Principal Dufrene!

If you're feeling especially ballsy, maybe even shoot Superintendent Van Heukelum a respectful email voicing your opinion. He may be reached at vanheukelum@wps.k12.va.us

CAN'T HIDE THAT HANDLEY PRIDE! Keep up the good work Judges!
