Why this petition matters

Started by Camilla Jackson

I live in the beautiful county of Wiltshire. I run a small catering company and it always upsets me the food wastage I put into my household bin. We don’t have a huge garden and know that although having a compost area in the garden is amazing it does attract rats and this would be very close to the house. All my raw veg goes to our children’s rabbits and guinea pigs but still the rest goes into my bin. It is such a shame that Wiltshire Council has talked about this for so long but still we don’t have this service. So many people in Wiltshire live in towns with small gardens so could never have an area for composting. With all the chat of new developments in my area this will only increase.

I stay with friends in neighbouring counties  such as Somerset and Dorset and always love their composting bins in their kitchens and know that their contents are going to go to good. I have just watched an incredible film called “Kiss The Ground” and it inspired me so much that all our waste can do so much good and keep the cycle of healthy earth going.
I never quite understand why in Wiltshire we don’t have this service and wondered if I can make a call for help and see if I can get a ball rolling. It’s time for our generation to keep making a difference and inspiring our children to do so too.
