SOS - Save Our Space
SOS - Save Our Space

The Artarmon Bowling Clubhouse was built in 1957 by a community of pioneering men and women working together. In 2016 the bowling club site was sold to Willoughby council on the condition it be used for community recreational purposes.
The former Artarmon Bowling Clubhouse soon became a community centre, providing much needed community services. The clubhouse was hired 5 days per week by well-being teachers of yoga, fitness, dance and martial arts. It also provided much needed afterschool care.
December 2018 all hirers were asked to leave for building works to the surrounding parkland. Subsequently, the council resolved to demolish this valuable indoor community centre and build an outdoor pavilion.
We feel this decision does not reflect the feelings or opinion of the citizens of Willoughby council particularly those of the Artarmon community.
Please sign this petition to retain the clubhouse and provide an indoor space where all the community including the elderly can appreciate the Artarmon Reserve in all weathers and can take part in educational, recreational and social activities that complement the environmental values of the Artarmon Reserve.
Cost consideration:
The current option endorsed by Willoughby Councillors is: Cost Option 3 Demolish the Clubhouse for the outdoor pavilion: Total cost of option 3: $875,000
This petition is to retain club house and renovate for community use: Total cost of option 1: $844,130
Retaining the club house Option 1 saves Council $30,870 over 10 years and provides valuable indoor space for community use.
Please sign this petition to Willoughby City Council: To Retain The Former Artarmon Bowling Clubhouse And Apply Option 1.
Thank you for your help.
