Why this petition matters

Started by Rick Freschi

William Hoy was a major league baseball player who played in 1,797 Games with several major league teams.  He would end his career with a .288 Batting Average, 2,048 hits, 1429 Runs, 40 HR, and 725 RBI's.  He was also the first deaf major league baseball player.  He is credited with creating hand signals that are still used in baseball today.  He is one of three outfielders to throw out 3 baserunners at home plate in one game.  He ranks 19th all time in stolen bases.

When he retired in 1902 he was second in walks (1,006), first in putouts (3,958), seventh in assists (273), and third in double plays (72).  He score over 100 runs 9 times in his career.  In his rookie season he would lead the league with 82 Stolen Bases.  In 1901 he would hit the second grand slam in Baseball History, the first in the American League.  William Hoy is part of the history of baseball.  These are the many reasons he should be in the Hall of Fame.  He made so many contributions to the game.

Another reason he should be in the Hall of Fame is because he has better or comparable numbers to another centerfield who was elected by the Veterans Committee in 1967.  That player is Lloyd Waner.  When comparing the two players Hoy has more Runs, Triples, Homeruns, RBI's, Stolen Bases, Walks, OBP, OPS, OPS+, WAR, TotA, SecA, ISO, HR%, BB%, and SO%.  He did all of this despite having 657 less at bats and playing in 196 less games.

There is no more excuses, William Hoy should be in the baseball Hall of Fame.  Please sign this petition so we can start the process of getting William Hoy the recognition he deserves.  Thank you!
