No Eversource herbicide spraying on Martha's Vineyard

We of Martha's Vineyard are opposed to the use of chemical herbicides beneath the electrical right-of-ways currently maintained by Eversource Energy.  Martha's Vineyard has a sole-source aquifer, a unique and fragile habitat, and a population concerned with the health and well-being of their families and the land.

The electrical right-of-way in West Chop Woods directly abuts a Sheriff's Meadow Foundation nature preserve. This is a popular area for walking and dog-walking, and is very densely populated with lots of children. These are large areas of land that Eversource is proposing to spray for the first time in 4 years, the second being in Edgartown near the Vineyard Haven Road.

Eversource intends to spray in the summer, although the public comment period ends March 27. This is when pollinator populations are present and susceptible to chemicals. Frogs, like the spring pinkletinks, are also highly sensitive to chemical herbicides.
