Remove Electric Cooperative pricing monopoly to give FAIR electric pricing for all Texans

Many residents of Southlake, Keller, Colleyville and several surrounding counties are in an area served by both Tri-County Electric Cooperative and Oncor electric.  Unlike residents living in Oncor areas that enjoy competitive pricing and choice, residents living in Tri-County Electric Cooperative neighborhoods do not have a choice.  Residents are subject to whatever price the cooperative sets for the billing period.

The average rate for the last 12 months with Tri-County Electric Cooperative was 9.0 cents/kWh.  On powertochoose.org, based on 2000 kWh average usage, the lowest contract rate is 6.2 cents.  Tri-County Electric Cooperative's average rate is a whopping 45% higher!!

I personally know someone in Southlake in an Oncor neighborhood that had a contract rate of 4.1 cents per kWh for 1000 kWh usage and 4.9 cents over 2000 kWh in March, April, and May 2017.  Tri-County Electric Cooperative rate during that time was 9.5 cents.  Tri-County Electric Cooperative rate was more than double what an Oncor customers could have been!

It's time to get OUR REPRESENTATIVES to represent us and take this price gouging monopoly away by allowing competition throughout all of Texas!

Deregulation has worked for the last 16 years to bring energy prices down for 85% of Texas residents.  It's time Texans are not punished and overcharged because of where their house happens to be located.
