Wildlife Signs Needed on Saunders Beach Rd

Wildlife Signs Needed on Saunders Beach Rd
Why this petition matters

The region between Black River to Bluewater and further north, bounded by the Bruce Highway and the Coral Sea (while under various tenure), acts as a significant wildlife reserve for a wide range of native flora and fauna. Native fauna supported includes: kangaroos, wallabies, possums, echidnas, goannas, snakes, dingos, pheasant coucals, ibis, egrets, pelicans, kites, sea eagles, a myriad of large and small birdlife and much more.
A busy road transecting this region is Saunders Beach Road, which services the community of Saunders Beach. There is a high level of road accidents involving cars and wildlife on the Saunders Beach Road. These accidents endanger the public, create damage to vehicles and result in wildlife casualties. There is consistently an animal killed by car collision, every one to three days.
Reducing the risk of accidents with wildlife on Saunders Beach Road would enhance the safety of the public, reduce property damage and increase the effective wildlife reserve afforded by this property region.
Saunders Beach and the Northern region, is used widely by Townville residents and travelling tourists as a place of retreat and recreation, with wildlife being part of that attraction.
To increase the awareness of wildlife on the road and thereby reduce the risk of accidents, it is requested that the council:
-Install wildlife cautionary signage (highlighting the range of fauna): on entry to Saunders Beach Road, after the railway crossing proceeding toward the Saunders Beach township,
-Install signage (highlighting the range of fauna) proceeding toward the straight at the Salt flats.
-Install signage exiting Saunders beach township near the 100 km/h sign, proceeding toward the Bruce Highway.
There is currently 1 small wildlife sign after the salt flats proceeding toward the entry of the Saunders Beach Township.
