Jack Ussher started this petition to Wicklow County Council

When Blessington skatepark opened first in 2014 there stood a sign which said that no under 12s, no scooters or mountain bikes where permitted to be used in the park. According to a post made by the Blessington skatepark Facebook page, no wheeled vehicles (other than skateboards, roller blades and BMX’s are permitted in the park as they are not covered under the insurance policy. This sign was vandalised and later ripped down outside the skatepark and never replaced. Its absence has caused many issues for people trying to roller blade or skate the park safely for many years now as unsupervised young children as young as 2 years old have been running around and using scooters in the park.  Many younger people on mountain bikes and scooters are unaware of how the park flows and tend to drag dirt, stones and water onto the parks surface from rolling through the surrounding grass and stones.

Not only have these issues caused many serious accidents and injuries to the unsupervised children themselves but most often, the older users, who try to skate the park properly either slip out on the dirty concrete or have hurt themselves trying to avoid these young children on scooters and bikes.

The coping on one of the quarter Pipes has also almost completely detached from the ramp itself which is yet another serious danger in the park.

The skate community has grown significantly in blessington over the past few years and these problems have made the park increasingly unusable as the place gets busier each year. It would be greatly appreciated if the sign that was originally in place could be put back up and the obstacles in the park be repaired. The playground was recently repaired and re painted and there is also a sign there saying that no under 12s are permitted to use the playground right next to the skatepark.
