Meaghan Ayer started this petition to Regional President of Whole Foods Bay Area Robert T. and

Millions of pounds of plastic are recycled incorrectly or thrown in landfills each year by large grocery stores/retail chains. Much of this plastic is unnecessary, to begin with, specifically in produce sections of stores. That is why I'm petitioning major grocers and corporations across the United States, starting with Whole Foods Market, Grocery Outlet, and Raley's, to remove plastic packaging completely from their produce sections. Goods like apples, potatoes, tomatoes, and spinach and lettuce do not need to be packaged in plastic bags or plastic containers. Most fruits and vegetables have skins and peels that act as natural packaging, therefore plastic does nothing to extend shelf life and therefore is unnecessary. With the state of our world growing increasingly more grim year after year thanks to rising water temperatures, plastic pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, natural disasters and an increase in disease we need to make a change now for the better. Plastic pollution affects every person, every community, and every country in this world. Please help me to make this change for the greater good.
