Edwin S. Robinson Professor of Dentistry at Columbia University and Co-Director for the Center for Craniofacial Regeneration, Dr. Jeremy Mao has developed a growth factor-infused, three-dimensional scaffold that has the capability of regenerating an anatomically correct tooth in a span of 9 weeks from the date of implantation. He used a method that was developed in the university’s Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Laboratory. He can direct the body’s own stem cells towards the three-dimensional scaffold which is made of natural materials. Hence, the stem cells will naturally colonize the scaffold, enabling a tooth to grow in the socket and merge with the surrounding tissue.

I'm worried about the condition of my teeth right now. So, i hope we can regrow our teeth NEXT YEAR! How many years should we wait for the teeth regeneration treatment as there are lots of research done by them?

Lost one of my front teeth due to an accident where I knocked one of them out. Can't even begin to describe the emotional journey I went through to get implants and then having one of them fail and retrying. Pushing this research forward is important. Some days I feel defeated, but I remain hopeful because of how many people are behind this issue and working on making tooth regeneration treatments a reality in our lifetime. For all my fellow tooth regeneration fellows, please keep on supporting this work! There's also a nonprofit we can back that seems to be working on this research very seriously: https://www.biotooth.org/

Stay hopeful, everyone!

Personally, this kind of innovation would be life changing. Aside from the embarrassment of tooth loss, health wise, if only just from changes in diet stemming from inability to chew, coupled with the emotional distress that can come with the losing teeth, add in the pain from dentures & jaw displacement, finding an option that can virtually rewind damage from medical treatments before we knew what those treatments might due or how they would negatively impact their patients. Bone loss/dental weakness, due to years of medical treatment involving steroids, combined with pseudo tumor cerebri, has left me with but only disabilities but also the loss of over 50% of my teeth and bone loss. (Bone density, arthritis, etc.). Unfortunately, even bone graphs are not always successful, are costly, and only part of a non guaranteed process for implants. I can't be the only one who would benefit from a better option v
