Pourquoi cette pétition est importante

Lancée par Sharlene CHEN

First of all, Boohoo is an online fashion company who does not use eco-friendly materials. It demonstrates no evidence that shows their effort to reduce or eliminate the chemicals. They report the greenhouse gas emissions from the direct operation, however, the chains do not report how much greenhouse gas they are emitting which shows that they are really not making clear to the public whether they are caring about the environment or not. This needs to be addressed because our world is suffering from climate change, and one of the main contributors to climate change is greenhouse gases.

If a company doesn’t care about the emission of greenhouse gases, it is going to be critical to our environment. According to C2ES, 30% of the greenhouse gases in the US came from industries and factories. Therefore, it is very important for a company to use eco-friendly materials to help the environment.

In addition, Boohoo publishes zero information about its supplier policies and audits. They don’t have any information about forced labor, gender equality or freedom of association. No evidence could be found on the fact that they are giving a living wage for its supply chain. It is important to make a policy about the laborers working for their company. No policies in the company are almost like no rules for the workers.

They can give below the minimum wage and get away with it since they don’t have a written policy promising that they are taking care of their workers. They also don’t have any policies or safeguards to protect suppliers and workers in its supply chain from the impacts of COVID-19. Furthermore, there is no evidence it has a policy to minimize the suffering of animals.

Therefore, Boohoo needs to be more transparent to the public and show what exactly they are doing because so far, there seems to be a lot of information that they are hiding from the public. If the public figures out what exactly is going on, the company should take action into changing their products to be more animal friendly, and try not to emit a lot of greenhouse gases, and give their workers a living wage. The company, itself, has the ability to take actions, since they are the ones responsible for their products and their workers’ conditions. Another party which is capable of fixing this problem is the consumers who have the ability to boycott the products. The government could also interfere by setting regulations on their policies.

In conclusion, we propose that Boohoo should reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in their factories as well as making a strict policy for their workers. We also believe that Boohoo should be more transparent to the public in terms of what they are doing and clearly show what is happening regarding their supply chain.
