Whitworth Alumni who stand with Planned Parenthood
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
In a collaborative effort by Whitworth graduates whom have been deeply saddened and frustrated by a recent administrative decision to cut ties with Planned Parenthood, we have created this petition to bring in the voice of other alumni.
We believe that the decision to cut ties with Planned Parenthood does not represent Whitworth's Christian mission statement nor does it represent us, its alumni
Though a statement was made contending that this decision does not affect Whitworth’s stance on gender inequality, we believe the removal of support from Planned Parenthood is absolutely an issue of gender equality. This decision suggests that Whitworth’s stance on gender has been and continues to be one of inequality. The majority of services provided by Planned Parenthood are not available at Whitworth. Women’s reproductive rights are an integral part of our fundamental human rights and should be supported by Whitworth. To disregard that a lack of reproductive healthcare access disproportionately affects women is both ignorant and misogynistic. From a Christian and equal human rights standpoint, we do not see the value in cutting ties with an organization dedicated to providing healthcare to low-income women. We believe that reproductive justice is tied to economic justice.
To first not provide contraceptives and reproductive resources on campus and to then cut ties from Planned Parenthood certainly suggests that Whitworth is uninterested in caring for the women on its campus.
We ask that other alumni who feel this way join us in raising our voices to Whitworth administration.
