Grassi Whittier started this petition to Whittier College Students

The air quality index was high on November 12 as the index was 132, this bad air quality continued to carry out for the week. In May 2019, carbon emissions were the highest humanity has seen, it was recorded at 415 ppm. At Whittier College the majority of the students population are commuters meaning that individuals carbon footprints are high. Institutional action needs to be taken by offsetting our emissions footprint. Whittier College can do this by decreasing the large amounts of grassy lawns around the entire campus and replacing them with native drought resistant plants such as Yarrow, Manzanita, and lavender one area at a time. By doing so we can substantially reduce the amount  of water used around campus and to take that one step further we want to to implement a grey water system putting even less water to waste. By recycling the water from showers, faucets, drains, etc, used every day on campus and having plants that require less water than grass, Whittier College will become a greener less wasteful campus!
