No More Motels on Whittier Blvd!

This petition made change with 1,572 supporters!

The City of Whittier is approving the building of a motel, specifically a 43 room hotel on the vacant and boarded up lot of Whittier Blvd and Calmada (14116-14132 Whittier Blvd). The developer behind this project is Bakor Investments- a developer who owns, or has owned, three other motel chains.

We, as residents of Whittier, oppose the proposal. We find that building another motel (additional to the 9 motels already here) would change the feel of the city, attract more crime to the local area, affect local businesses, and essentially decrease property values. With many schools nearby, the community is concerned that increased crime will affect the safety of our children.

Residents are proud of Whittier's "small-town" feeling and a development like this does the contrary. It does not benefit homeowners in any way and would actually make the surrounding areas less desirable.
