Dog parks are great for people and dogs. The dog park at Symonds Reserve, is awesome! Within a small space of time, a community of some 212 dog owners have gathered together as Friends of Aldinga Dog Park. This group, that I am proudly apart of shares photos, stories and encourages meetings. We love the dog park and we are passionate about making it work.
There is one small stinky problem. Council have removed the bins. We are the only Dog Park in South Australia with no bins within it. Each park has a minimum of two bins regardless of the socioeconomics/geographics of the particular area. Why is Aldinga different from North Adelaide, West Torrens or Trott Park?
Locations of the bins have changed causing confusion and accessibility issues. Not all who use the dog park have the capability of walking 150m on a dirt path to the outskirts of a community park to dispose of a poo bag, and these people should not be labelled as “lazy” as published in the Advertiser. This short "lazy" trip would for some people be 300m for one poo. Should these people be excluded from park use or dog ownership?
Moreover, is it acceptable to place dog faeces into a bin within 2 metres from a community childcare centre?
We would like two bins, one at each entry point for accessible rubbish disposal for all, in line with every other dog park in South Australia to maintain cleanliness.
