Allandale School is unique to other schools in Whakatane in that it is situated pretty much on a corner and has two entrances to it's school. The main entrance on King Street and another on Alexander Ave. While King St has a pedestrian crossing, Alexander Ave has a "Kiwi crossing".
What our concern is the speed of traffic on Alexander Ave as they come around the corner from King Street. The majority tend to really hoof it up past the school making it extremely dangerous for children before and after school when the crossing is not in use. There are many children who cross before the "Kiwi crossing" is working or after they have finished.
We would like the Whakatane District Council to install speed bumps/rumble strip before the "kiwi crossing" - just something to make people slow down! It is scary watching children waiting to cross the road with cars speeding past.
