Michael Bennett started this petition to Wexford County Council

The beach at Rosslare Harbour needs a litter bin. The sight of discarded beer cans and bottles, coffee cups, fast-food packaging etc. is commonplace in the dunes, along the beach, and especially in the area of the car park.

I believe many of the offenders would use a bin if one were provided because the dog waste bin at the car park is routinely rendered useless as a result of visitors stuffing their trash into it (see picture). This leads to dog waste baggies piling up on and around the waste bin, along with the other trash that tends to get dumped around it when the dog waste bin is full to bursting with refuse that should - and should not - be in it.

The current situation is often unsightly, unsanitary, unsafe (broken bottles on a beach - a place where people are frequently barefooted), harmful to wildlife, and perhaps most pertinent of all, a very ugly first impression of Wexford for visitors arriving on the ferry.

A local volunteer environment group does much-appreciated litter-picking work in the area, without their efforts things would be far worse, but it shouldn't be left to them to keep the place tidy and safe; the environment is everyone's responsibility, and a litter bin would provide all beach users with the means to leave the beach as they found it.

Please add your name to this petition to Wexford County Council to show your support for this much-needed facility.

Thank you.
