Banks currently don't offer bank-to-bank transfers on weekends or public holidays. We are being pushed to use less physical cash and use cards more and more - The lowest economic class in NZ quite often need to borrow or send money to help others out during weekends and public holidays which can be 4 days of a 7 day week.

This can be the difference between eating or not for some. 

Plenty of people in NZ work both said holidays - I don't think it to be unreasonable that banks step up their game and make the transition easier. 

Cryptocurrency could be a proof of stake between banks making transfers to ensure the money is sent from say Kiwibank to Westpac although unlikely - a more realistic solution would be to just hire a few more people and help grow the economy. 

Marketplaces such as Facebook and Trademe would be bolstered through bank-to-bank transfers being available on weekends as that's the only time some people have off from work.
