Cycle path on Park Lane underpass (Hilton)

Cyclists who come from the south carriage drive in Hyde Park and need to cross Park Lane around Hyde Park corner towards Mayfair have little options. The Hyde Park Corner side of Park Lane is one of the busiest most polluted roads of London. Cyclists risk their life crossing here. The underpass is the logical choice. However, cyclists are obliged to dismount, and get fined if they don't.
In light of the government stimulated push towards greater cycling safety, cycling superhighways and all the efforts that have been made recently to encourage cycling, this particular crossing is lagging behind. Cyclists loose time and take up space in the tunnel when dismounted from their bikes. There is enough space to create a cycling lane in the underpass, by dividing it between cyclists and pedestrains in two seperate lanes. Other crossing options above ground could be explored, however safety should always be paramount.
