Did anything happen about this? Did they accidentally find it yet after they accidentally lost it?

No robust justification for the removal of this structure was provided; street furniture is for everyone. The structure was to help the over-burdened, a kind gesture.

I spoke to EH and Westminster about it when I noticed it was missing in October 2013 - Unfortunately it went in a two week period while I was on holiday and not walking up that part of Piccadilly on the way to work. I continued to speak to Westminster about it into January 2014. They had contacted all the utilities and TFL to see if anyone had removed it and had to await their responses. They were also in touch to see if there was any CCTV footage covering the site, but when you don't have an idea of when it went that is difficult. Even then they reckoned it had been pinched.
