Sadie Custodio started this petition to Westminster, and

The use of "Atypical Anorexia" in diagnosis of an eating disorder is not only extremely harmful but can also cause a great decrease in health for the certain person in care.

It is based around BMI which was not only not created by a doctor or scientist, but is highly outdated and has no actual evidence on someone's health.

"but don't meet the low weight criteria seen in anorexia nervosa" this is just one part of the definition. Having a low weight in anorexia has also been proven not to have any correlation to severity of physical symptoms and sickness so it's really just not necessary!

Eating Disorders are highly competitive and using terms like "Atypical" invalidates the sick person and can cause them to strive for that low body weight.

I am proof of this as when I received my "Atypical Anorexia" diagnoses, I felt like I wasn't sick enough, I felt invalidated, I felt like I was stupid for seeking help"

**I'll add now, I am so so so sorry if you have EVER been made to feel like this, you are worthy of recovery, you are sick enough to deserve help and you don't need to prove that to anyone**

Anyway, that was how I felt and we'll one thing led to another and I got more noticeably sick.

BMI and Atypical Anorexia are toxic, outdated and pathetically harmful

Anorexia is ANOREXIA

Anorexia is not a WEIGHT DISORDER

Anorexia is a Mental illness

People should not be turned away from treatment for having a high BMI.

Get rid of "Atypical Anorexia" because there is nothing ATYPICAL about it

This petition is on behalf of the whole eating disorder community, for everyone ever effected. You are valid, you deserve help and you deserve to recover.
