This petition is inspired by the ongoing war in my country, Ukraine. It aims to demand action from my university, UWO to show actual support to students whose countries are at war/military conflict/invasion/etc. I do, however, hope it will reach other universities in Ontario and Canada. 

While Western has expressed their condolences to Ukrainian students regardless what is happening and shared counselling resources, I believe that is not enough. We deserve more than condolences and resources that, frankly, are questionable at the best of times (speaking from personal experience). We deserve not to have to worry about school when our countries are at war. 

Western needs to demonstrate humanity and take substantial action by:

1. Suspending all assignments and exams for students whose countries are at war 

2. Lower tuition for international students from countries affected by war 

There is no dignity in having to beg for an extension or academic accommodation during war. We are trying to make sure our families and loved ones live through the next few hours every day or arranging asylum for them. We do not go to bed until the sun rises in Ukraine to make sure they lived through another horrific night. We wake up and check again. We have not been able to think about anything else rather than the war.
