Project Omega - Ending Period Poverty
Project Omega - Ending Period Poverty
Collective action is required to tackle ‘period poverty’ within Western Sydney University (WSU) campuses.
Period Poverty describes the inability to purchase sanitary products, leading to significant impact in health, comfort, and engagement for school students
Project Omega aims to raise awareness and reduce stigma regarding period poverty, through increasing the accessibility of sanitary products on the WSU campuses. We hope to empower and collaborate with female students, especially those more vulnerable, by providing free confidential access to sanitary products throughout the duration of their degrees.
Share the Dignity is a charity that works towards ending period poverty and offers opportunities to minimise this issue at University campuses. A #pinkbox dignity vending machine dispenses free packs of six tampons and two pads to those in need. Our goal is to gain support to implement a #pinkbox dignity vending machine in every WSU campus.
This change aims to increase female students' mental health and self-confidence, to promote greater attendance in classes and to provide a long term solution in the effort to achieve menstrual equity
