The dedicated Westmead Hospital Supportive & Palliative Care ward established in the mid 1990's no longer exists. Despite ongoing requests for this to be re-established to meet the needs of the most complex palliative care patients in Western Sydney, no meaningful response has been received. The Western Sydney community deserve better than this for our most vulnerable patients and their supportive families.

These complex patients with advanced illnesses require appropriate surroundings, specialist palliative care doctors, nurses, allied health and spiritual care to optimise their quality of life and coordinate their care.

In Western Sydney only Westmead Hospital has ready access to the expertise of other specialities to meet the complex needs of this select group of patients to enable them to live the remainder of their lives with comfort, dignity and in the place of their choosing surrounded by their loved ones.
