The students of the Western New England MFA Program (Masters of Fine Arts: Creative Writing) found out this evening that our beloved program director is being dismissed.

Stephanie Wardrop, in the year she was director, made a positive impact in all our lives as students. With all respect to the previous director it is our opinion that she is the best thing to have happened to this program.

In 2018, WNE switched to a new registration portal without seemingly working out all the kinks. It took weeks for all of us to be registered because she wasn't given access to see who still needed to register and who already had. Professor Wardrop worked tirelessly to make sure all of her students were registered and squared away to the best of her ability given the circumstances.

Personal testimony:

Hannah Gumbs, MFA Graduate Summer 2019

Stephanie Wardrop is the best thing to have ever happened to this program. I had issue after issue with attempting to register, getting access to my financial aid, and even getting into my school email address. Stephanie did everything possible for me so that I could graduate and not only that. She was the best support I could have asked for. Every semester has been different and exciting since she took control. I personally feel it would be a detriment to the program if she were to be removed from her position as I truly feel she is the reason that I have succeeded in this program.

Cody Strait, MFA Graduate Summer 2019

Stephanie was nothing but caring and attentive while she was director. She did everything she could to make sure everyone was comfortable during our week-long residencies and made sure everyone had what they needed. The registration process, which elicited this termination, was not functional for our program Personally, I had to be in contact with both Stephanie and the registrar every semester because it wouldn't allow me to sign up for classes Stephanie did everything she could to help each time, as difficult as it was.
