A passive stance on this issue is morally wrong and does not uphold the tenets of scouting. Other youth service organizations, including the Girl Scouts, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and the 4H Club all welcome LGBT members and leaders. We love the Boy Scouts, but we can’t support the policy that is in place now. That is why we urge you to speak out and adopt an inclusive policy as other troops, packs, councils, and lodges across the country and within the commonwealth have done - so the Boy Scouts can maintain its relevancy, improve recruitment, and truly live by the principles it teaches its members. Let's teach our children to be brave, and stand up for the rights of others!
NOTE: We encourage everyone to join this campaign, but if you're a current or former Scout, parent, or leader, please say so in the "Why People Are Signing" section. Also, if you're a parent who has decided not to allow your child(ren) to participate in BSA because of the current discriminatory policy, or if you might withdraw your active scout(s) if the policy remains unchanged, please say so, especially if you live in Western Massachusetts. Thanks!
In order for scouting to survive, change must come. The demographics of tolerance are stark; an overwhelming majority of children and young adults support LGBT equality. It is the duty of the leaders of this council to uphold the principles of scouting, and show our youth that they can depend on you to do the right thing, so that they can follow and learn from your example.
