Dear Sirs and Madams, 

It hurts our hearts that we’re forced to write to you in a moment like this. It hurts that the morality, empathy and willingness to help those in need are weaker than ignorance and egoism. For a few months we have been watching with fear the negotiations which were taking place between you and Putin’s representatives, and it is difficult to believe how indifferent you are to the fate of our brothers and sisters. For they pass each day with unease about what the future will bring, whether they will wake up with bullets sweeping through the air. Together with them we fear for their beloved country, for all that we desire is the right for the Ukrainian nation to live in peace without fear of poverty and corruption, to be a proud member of the European Union and one of the prosperous democracies of this world. Who are we to take this right away from them to be ignorant for their plight? Are they not Europeans as well? Are we not all one nation?  It is with this faith that they marched to Maidan in 2013. It is with this faith that they faced Putin’s mercenaries in 2014, and it is with this dream that they struggle every day with hope for a better tomorrow. And it is time to pay our debts as well.

There is danger to our future in the form of Putin’s corrupted elite, which contrary to their lies is not concerned with the safety of Russia, which is simply another country they feast upon, but with the danger which prosperous and stable Ukraine constitutes to their power. What can motivate the average Russian citizen to change their system that a rich, non corrupt country culturally similar to theirs. For this Ukraine has not had a peaceful year since 2013, instead we’ve been forced to face every possible attempt to destabilize and prevent further development of Ukraine.

Just like Poland, Baltic states and every other former communist country we were not forced to align ourselves with the west by the coup, dictatorship, foreign pressure. It was the fear of aggression, desire for peace and shared values that motivated every single of us to dream about becoming one of western nations. If left alone, if traded to Putin, if blocked from joining NATO they will be left defenseless against every sort of pressure to become once again an oligarchic colony. Right now, our European compatriots have thousands of guns aimed at them and nothing to defend themselves, that’s why we are begging from the depths of our hearts not to stay indifferent like Chamberlain in those cursed times but rather come to save them, respond decisively at each form of aggression or threat and counter every single future Putin’s action with the same means which he will be using.
