This online petition is for those people who are dismayed and astounded of the decision of the Western Downs Regional Council to close Tarcoola, the Tara based aged care facility. We believe that with a united and combined voice, we can convince this council to reverse their decision. We believe this decision is in contradiction to the Local Government Act 5 principles of: 

1. Transparent and effective processes, and decision making in the public interest

2. Sustainable development and management of assets and infrastructure and development of effective services

3. Democratic representation social inclusion and meaningful community engagement

4. Good governance of, and by, local government

5. Ethical and legal behaviour of councillors, local government employees and councillors advisors

Residents of Tarcoola will be moved away from the local community, friends and family causing anxiety, stress and heart break. Not everyone is directly affected by this decision so are not able to make a complaint to the Western Downs Regional Council. However many local residents, ex Tara people and their families and friends are saddened and confused by this decision to close Tarcoola. Many of these community minded people helped in the fund raising to ensure Tarcoola was built. This took approximately eight years, back in 1996
