Hold Rio Tinto accountable for the destruction of Juukan Gorge cave

0 have signed. Let’s get to 25,000!

On Sunday 24th May mining company Rio Tinto destroyed a 46,000 year old sacred cave in the Hammersley Ranges of Western Australia. Rio Tinto was aware that the cave contained culturally significant artifacts (including the recent discovery of 40,000 year old plaited hair), but continued with the destruction of the cave, protected by Western Australia’s “Aboriginal Heritage Laws” from 1972.

By signing this petition you are appealing to the Western Australian and federal governments to hold the multinational mining company Rio Tinto responsible for its disregard for Australia’s First Nation peoples. You are asking for compensation for the traditional owners of Juukan Gorge (Puutu Kunti Kurrama). You are demanding Australian policies and laws are revised to protect the interests of Australian people above the interests of billion dollar mining companies.
