Academic Excellence stays at Perth Modern - say 'NO' to a high-rise school

Perth Modern School has achieved outstanding results in recent years, with exceptional ATAR scores and numerous medallists. Importantly, the students excel not only academically but in sports, music, the arts and more.

The current location of the school is central, very accessible via public transport and bicycle, whilst remaining accessible by car with sufficient parking when necessary. This is important because children are accepted into the school from all over WA.

Perth Modern offers amazing educational opportunities and facilities, many of which are partly funded by donations from alumni. The current school facilities include educational and recreational spaces, both indoor and outdoor, in a traditional school environment that includes a combination of rich heritage and modern buildings as well as sporting grounds and playgrounds.

With year 7 students now in high schools, the kids are 11 - 18 years of age. These sharp young minds are contained within young bodies that need space outdoors, to run, to play, to socialise. The environment of this school cannot be contained within an inner-city, high-rise development.

The WA Labor Party proposes to take this proven successful environment at Perth Modern, where our most gifted and talented children can be brilliant but can also just be kids, and move these children into the stifling, adult-oriented CBD where they can begin their career in sterile, high-rise captivity at age 11.

Please - for the sake of our children already at the top-rated school in WA and for the sake of all those children who will strive for excellence in the future - say 'NO' to the WA Labor Party's high-rise school and save the gem that is Perth Modern.

Note: This petition is not politically motivated, nor it is intended to influence how any person may vote in the upcoming State election. It is intended to give petitioners an opportunity to voice their objection only to this specific proposal of the WA Labor Party.
