Make a optional coding class at Westerly Middle School
I believe that, due to humanity's rapid discovery of technology, that in the future more and more jobs will open up for coding and app/game design, and kids nowadays need to learn so they can take that opportunity. My idea, is to make a class dedicated for coding at Westerly Middle School. This will be optional, like band would be, and would take up a technology special. (this can be changed, just a first idea) This should (recommended) be taught by a teacher that has experience in coding and has taught for at least 3 - 5 years. ( I believe this teaching standard should be like this because coding can be extremely hard and a teacher that can explain directions and give good examples would be very beneficial to students)
The coding types I would recommend teaching would include (but not limited to)
(for Grade 5-12 ages)
- HTML
- CSS
- C#
- C
- Ruby (maybe)
(for Grade 6-12)
- HTML
- CSS
- Javascript
- C#
- C
- Ruby (maybe)
(for Grade 7-12
- HTML
- CSS
- Javascript
- Java
- Python
- C#
- C
- C++
- Ruby (maybe)
(for Grade 8 - 12
- HTML
- CSS
- Javascript
- Java
- Python
- C#
- C
- C++
- Ruby (maybe)
I feel like this would be a great idea to introduce extra jobs later into the future, and give success to students who decide to take these courses. (some jobs, like Python programming, get up to 120,000 annually)
Thank you! -Leo, 7th grade Westerly Middle School
