PEPA started this petition to County Legislator Nancy Barr - 6th District Westchester County Board of Legislators and

Petition To Advise The Westchester County Board of Legislators To Say “NO” to the Land Swap That Would Locate the WJWW Water Filtration Plant Within the Kenisco Watershed

PEPA is urging the Westchester County Board of Legislators (County BOL) to reject a proposed land swap with Westchester Joint Waterworks (WJWW) to construct a massive industrial plant within the protected Kensico Reservoir Watershed.

Given the importance of the Kensico Reservoir Watershed, it makes no sense to construct a large industrial plant in the location proposed by WJWW.  This is especially true when WJWW already owns property in an alternative location outside of the Kensico Watershed Boundary that they have already studied and determined is an appropriate location for the plant. Therefore, PEPA is asking that you sign the attached Petition opposing the current location for the WJWW plant.

Why Should You Sign this Petition?

Signing this petition will let the County BOL know that community is against the current location for the WJWW plant and that they should reject the land swap and require WJWW to build the plant on the nearby land they already own.

This is a major, extremely disruptive project at the entrance to Purchase that will significantly alter the protected Kensico Reservoir Watershed, deforests over 6 acres of mature growth trees, and will risk damaging a watershed that delivers roughly 1.2 billion gallons of water each day to 9 million people.

Because the Kensico Reservoir supplies drinking water to millions of people in New York City and Westchester, you do not need to be from Purchase to sign!
