Ban Plastic Bags in Westchester County (NY)
0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!
FACTS: On average, a plastic bag has an estimated lifespan of 20 minutes once in the hands of a consumer. Comparatively, plastic bags take on average an estimated 400 - 1,000 years to completely vanish. Their impact on the planet never truly vanishes. Plastic bags manage to kill marine and other forms of life every day. These bags poison our planet and are toxic when burned. According to Greenpeace, up to 12 million tonnes of plastic enter the oceans each year.
Westchester County (NY) has an opportunity to be the leader in a movement to improve lives now and in the future! Together, by working with local government and local communities, we can do our part to make a positive change. The first step in a complete transition away from plastic bags altogether is to ban the use of plastic bags from all retail outlets.
The argument against a ban has always and will always be 'it is bad for business.' The City of Rye and the Village of Larchmont are two of the municipalities in Westchester (NY) which have already implemented bans and with GREAT success, further dispelling this untenable argument.
It is time for our County Government to step up and lead the charge!
Please sign our petition and take action to end the use of plastic bags in Westchester County (NY)!
