Allow students to have personal communication devices during the school day.

In the Westby Area School District, per school board policy, students are allowed to have their cell phone (personal communication devices) as long as they are kept "out of sight" and completely turned off during class. The high school is prohibiting ALL students from having their cell phone in class, in the hallway, etc. The school has instructed the teachers and staff take any cell phones they see even if the device is off and in a students pocket unused. The school is even taking students out of classes, losing valuable instruction time, to perform cell phone checks. The Westby Area School District needs to teach the students the valuable lesson of when, where, and how these personal communication devices should and can be used. By the time these students get to college they need to be able to manage these personal communication devices themselves. Please sign the petition to let the Westby Area School District to know how the students, parents, and community feel about this issue and to once again allow students to have cell phones and other personal communication devices.
