Delaney Geib started this petition to West Virginia University

For several years, the fenced-in recreation field next to the WVU Recreation Center was made available to dog owners for dogs to play and owners to socialize in an area where they did not have to worry about their dogs running off.

At the end of the summer of 2020, the doggie bag stand and disposal canister was uprooted from the concrete outside of said fence and 2 weeks later a sign was posted on the fence that read "no dogs allowed." This action was taken with no warning to the dogs/owners who frequented the field for years prior.

Especially with the impact of COVID-19, for the mental health and wellness of the dogs and their owners, this field must be available for safe socialization. Dogs have very few places to exercise in Morgantown and they are in need of socialization just as much as humans during this difficult time. Dog owners have also been deprived of a large portion of their socialization due to this closure, as they often spend a few hours each day with their dogs at this field.

This field has also seldom been in use during the entirety of the time it has been declared off-limits to dogs. This area is simply wasted space, where in reality it could be benefitting the residents and pets of Morgantown each day if it were once again made accessible to dogs.

My dog and I frequented this field before we were no longer allowed to use it, and since then it has been very difficult to find a place for her to run around and socialize with many other dogs in a safe environment. Please, sign this petition, not only if you have a dog who misses the socialization and exercise as much as mine, but also if you believe in West Virginia University providing for the health and wellbeing of it's students, faculty, and the citizens of Morgantown!
