Oppose West Virginia House Bill 2909 & 3035
Exempt licensed dietitians from House Bill 2909 & oppose House Bill 3035. If put in to place, these bills will allow anyone (without 1,000+ hours of supervised practice & proper nutrition education) to practice Medical Nutrition Therapy. Also, these bills are taking away reimbursement pay for Registered Dietitians for patient's with Medicare/Medicaid. Without proper training in Medical Nutrition Therapy, if someone is given the wrong information from unlicensed nutritionist, it can lead to potential harm for more people.
This is part of a larger process of de-regulation, but also very personal to us as dietitians. What does this mean for you? If we lose licensure, RDNs will no longer be considered a healthcare practitioner for purposes of providing telehealth or obtaining reimbursement, especially during the immediate period after licensure is lost. Not being licensed would drastically limit the duties RDNs can provide, as previously authorized services would be illegal. This would backtrack and unwind privileges for which we have worked hard to obtain for many years. This is not the team’s opinion - this specific information is from Gov't and Regulatory Affairs at the Academy.
