Screen New Animal Intakes for Disease and Insure Healthy Animal Adoptions
This petition had 3 supporters
Animals throughout West Virginia are being admitted into shelters without screening for disease. The result is a shelter-wide contamination that culminates in a shelter-wide kill. As well, adoptions with contaminated animals who have not yet developed disease contribute to contamination and illness outside the shelter, in our neighborhoods, which cost consumers thousands of dollars of treatment. Animal diseases that people can catch, or "Zoonoses", cause 75 percent of the new diseases affecting humans in the past decade, thus making West Virginia shelters potentially a public health threat.
