Impose Harsher Punishments for Racial Slurs and Actions at WSHS

Impose Harsher Punishments for Racial Slurs and Actions at WSHS
Why this petition matters
Former and Present Students of West Springfield High School demand that the WSHS' administration team:
- Create and implement harsher punishments for students who use racial slurs and/or actions when it is brought to their attention.
- Make attendance to their Black History Month assembly mandatory, not optional.
- Prioritize their International Night and never again cancel it.
Far too long, the administration team at West Springfield High School has shrugged off many of the racist actions and comments that former and present students brought up to their attention. The lack of discipline and dependability from WSHS administration has led the majority of students to stay silent when students vilely attack them with racist remarks, they're afraid of the backlash they'll face from their administration.
Evidently, the number of times many students have committed and others that have faced or witnessed racists actions can be seen in this student-created twitter thread here. There are a vast amount of students from different graduating years that have all agreed the administration of West Springfield Highschool repeatedly fails to take action and punish students who have committed racists actions against others.
West Springfield Highschool claims to be a school that has "zero-tolerance" for racism but the administration itself made it clear that they do not care to prioritize their minority students when they changed their Black History Month Assembly optional instead of having it remain mandatory, as well as when they canceled International Night with vague explanations. These are two of the most diverse and powerful assembly a student of color could witness during their time of highschool.
As an alumnus from the graduation class 2019, it is dishearting to hear from present students of WSHS that they can still relate and agree that many students can get away with their racists actions and remarks and face no consequences. It is quite ironic how in a learning environment, WSHS does not teach racists students the wrongdoings of their racist actions.
High school is a small fraction of life's journey, but the racism that many students have faced and witness sticks, the memory of it does not go away easily.
West Springfield High School Administration, Teachers, and Staff members, please do better.
