catherine richards started this petition to West Plains Mayor

The new splash pad area IS NOT wheelchair accessible. I know because I visited it recently, and my staff, and my roommates staff had a difficult time accessing it. If a gentleman had not helped the staff get us to it we would have had to return home without using it. When the town builds something like that they need to include ramps, or an easily accessible path because we are a part of the town too. To deny us access to anything is to say with your actions that the disabled people of the community don't matter, and should be ignored. That's not fair because we have rights too. Anyone in a wheelchair who can't easily access any area of our community is hearing that we don't matter. We need our voices to be heard too. After all we can vote people in or out of office just like people who walk, or are blind, or mute. When you deny one person access you in turn deny us all that access. How would you feel if you were in our shoes? Maybe if all of the city government thought about that then they would make the necessary changes to all parts of our town. Change only happens when we as a community make it happen one problem at a time. Since coming to West Plains I've met so many other disabled individuals who are in the same boat we are in.
