The 2020 school year will present many challenges to the students of West New York. It is critical that we have the best teachers in place to run the remote learning program.

A large number of teachers are requesting to take a 12 week leave of absence under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) because of the current requirement to be in person at the schools to conduct remote learning.  Students will now have to overcome another hurdle of being taught by substitutes, who potentially have no background in education for three full months of school.

This is a crisis for our community — for the students, families and for the teachers.  We have only a week until school starts and we must find resolution. Many families are considering moving from the town, urgently trying to get their children into other districts or pulling out of school altogether.

The parents of West New York are asking for the Board of Education to reconsider teachers in their request to work from home.

Please support our teachers and support our students, who have endured so much these last months by making sure the strongest educators are in place for this unique school year.
