Keep Livi Great

ashley punton started this petition to West Lothian Council and

There is a group of local parents who believe the local skatepark is hazardous and a danger to their children. In addition, believe the park has been forgotten about. They have started a crowdfund to get the council to resurface and mess with the parks integrity. Essentially bubble wrapping the park.

Skating, bmxing, rollerblading and other activities done at the park are carried out at the risk of hurting yourself, it is a sport like any other. Livingston skatepark is one of the longest standing skateparks in the UK, with loads of history and memories made here; both by locals and famous skaters from around the world. Even Tony Hawk himself has been known to comment on some of the great features found here.

The purpose of this petition is to show these parents and the council that Livi is an amazing park, just the way it is, and that THERE IS a community of people who go down for exercise and leisure that disagree with their message. Livingston skatepark has character, and the cracks and grooves are part of what makes it so great, it sets a challenge for people to progress from the smaller ramps up to the big ramps, this progression is what helps drive and motivate people to get better. My argument is that if they carry out the planned "bubble wrapping" of the park, people will lose interest and won't want to skate it, and progress. And the new generations to come down and enjoy it the same way we did, won't. They won't feel the challenge and sense of self-improvement, the feelings of happiness and accomplishment that come with that.

If they would like to improve the park, I would invite them to look around the park and add to it. There are grassy/muddy areas around the park that could be concreted and built on top of. I feel this would be the best solution for the majority of people. Keeping the locals happy, as well as adding areas for the new generation to help build up their confidence to move onto more difficult parts of the park.
