U-Haul aims to transform a portion of a technology park into a full-service moving and storage campus to enhance a sustainable future for the town of West Greenwich. 53 Technology Way is currently a vacant building located in a key area and can be transformed into a successful, mixed-use truck sharing, self-storage, and retail destination. This building is known locally as the G-Tech building. Named after the company that built and occupied it prior to it becoming vacant.

The residents of the town of West Greenwich are not opposed; however, the town officials are. With the building sitting vacant, it’s holding back potential employment to the community. With U-Haul obtaining this location, it will require hiring 8-15 local team members to retail truck and trailer sharing, self-storage and quality moving supplies and services. This store also anticipates averaging 400-500 monthly rental transactions with the potential for several hundred monthly storage transactions. This will contribute to the economic stability of the West Greenwich community and support the town’s local tax base. Currently, customers would have to travel 1.6 miles to reach the next closest U-Haul dealer. This small dealer has a limited lot and is not equipped to meet the current truck sharing demands of customers. Thus, this new U-Haul facility will fill a vacant building and supply the local residents with a nearby moving and storage resource.

Help us obtain this building while creating a U-Haul store in its place. By signing this petition, your voice will be heard with the West Greenwich Planning Board. U-Haul has a history of seeking the preservation of buildings and is passionate about adaptive reuse.
