Installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Route 3/West Chester Pike and Kingsway Road

The intersection of Kingsway Road and West Chester Pike/Route 3 is more than a nuisance: The intersection is a severe danger to motorists traveling on both directions of West Chester Pike/Route 3. The lack of traffic signaling also threatens motorists attempting to turn left into Kingsway Road and West Chester Veterinary Medical Clinic from the eastbound side of West Chester Pike, as well as a danger for motorists travelling on the westbound side of Route 3/West Chester Pike, who are attempting to turn left into Santander Bank and Public Storage. This intersection is desperately in need of a traffic light, as it is nearly impossible to turn left from Kingsway Road onto eastbound West Chester Pike/Route 3, due to the large volume of traffic, as well as speeding motorists who speed down West Chester Pike/Route 3. This problem will only grow into a much bigger problem once the Wawa gas station and CVS/Pharmacy being built on the property of 1010 West Chester Pike will open for business as there will be an increase in traffic from these new businesses. Often there are cars “parked” on both left turning lanes at this intersection, often for 5 minutes or more, due to the inability to turn into either the Santander Bank/Public Storage properties, as well as attempting to turn into Kingsway Road, whether it be for the Goshen Terrace Apartments, West Chester Diner, Primo Hoagies, which all use Kingsway Road as the entrance for traffic to turn into their businesses. The installation of a traffic light at this intersection will also reduce speeding as motorists traveling Route 3/West Chester Pike will be slowed down and stopped at the installed traffic light. Many residents of Goshen Terrace Apartments chose to walk to these places as driving to these businesses is not a feasible option. However, these pedestrians who attempt to cross Route 3/West Chester Pike often place their lives in danger to do so without a traffic light and pedestrian crossing, demonstrating the importance of a pedestrian crossing at this intersection as well. This issue must not be overlooked or ignored any longer, as the lack of signaling at this intersection places the lives of many in danger, as well as jeopardizing the businesses that depend on this intersection for their entrances. It is also important to note that Kingsway Road is the only entrance and exit for the residents of Goshen Terrace Apartments. With the increasing businesses that are being built along this highway, the lack of a traffic light at this intersection will cause traffic jams, as the left turn lane into Kingsway Road already fills up with vehicles, creating a long line of cars that often extends into the left lane of east bound Route 3/West Chester Pike. As a concerned resident, I call for immediate traffic studies on how to improve this intersection and demand that the time to install a traffic light at this intersection is now, as this can prevent fatal accidents from occurring at this dangerous intersection.
