Future of St Michaels Trading Estate must be decided in Bridport, not Dorchester.

St Michaels Trading Estate is the historic centre of Bridport's famous rope industry and today is home to over 90 small businesses, artisans and artists, plus a vintage market. It has been under threat from housing development before and in 2012 the planning meeting took place in Dorchester - against the wishes of residents of Bridport and our Town Council.
A revised application is now before the Council. This decision will shape the future of the town: it is of enormous interest. The 2012 proposals attracted a huge response: 98% were against it, including Bridport Town Council. Given this level of concern, the Planning Committee discussion must be accessible to Bridport residents. There are several suitable, large venues in the town. It is vital that, this time, the meeting is held in Bridport, and we ask West Dorset District Council to commit to doing so.
