The Still Hopes Continuing Care Retirement Community has petitioned to rezone the recently constructed emergency/maintenance entrance on C. Ave. to allow it to become an open entrance/exit for all. This entrance is located on the 800 block of C. Ave. across from the ballfields between B. and C. Avenues near Ninth Street.

-It would set a precedent to allow future commercial infringement on a residential street.

-Quiet enjoyment is a right of all residents in proximity and residential integrity must be preserved.

-It would have the potential to decrease home values due to increased through-traffic including service delivery vehicles and trucks.

-Still Hopes future plans include 18 small residential houses along Ninth Street in front of the current Lexington District Two administration building. This would further increase the traffic flow on C. Ave. when drivers choose to avoid the traffic on Knox Abbot Drive. Visitors coming from downtown Columbia and crossing the Gervais Street Bridge, would understandably choose to access Still Hopes on C. Ave. rather than continue to the Main entrance on Knox Abbott Drive.

-Some city officials are choosing to discount what the residents feel are valid concerns

-Still Hopes is a non-profit tax exempt organization that is positioned to add additional strain on city amenities such as emergency services, public works and infrastructure.

-This "emergency" entrance with the culverts spanning the Brickyard Branch Watershed is already posing environmental concerns. Construction rocks were dumped in the channel and it is not being maintained properly adding to the watershed issues. Infringement on these natural areas must be stopped!

THE REZONING HEARING IS JULY 20, 6:00 PM AT THE WEST COLUMBIA CITY HALL ON TWELFTH STREET adjacent to Jarvis Klapman Boulevard.
