Gill Hall started this petition to West Berkshire Council's Traffic and Road Safety Team

West Berkshire Council's stance is that they will not try to enforce the speed limit unless someone is killed or seriously injured. This is unacceptable.

Residents of Great Shefford have been asking for many years for traffic calming measures to be installed along the A338 right through our village. We all know just how fast vehicles so often speed.

The speed limit through a lot of the village is 30mph, but we constantly experience vehicles vastly exceeding this limit, and also in the 40mph stretch (which we feel should also have a speed limit of 30mph especially given the proximity to our Primary School). There is also a huge issue with speed excess on the southern entry to our village.

Villagers including our children and our elderly walk along the pavement on the A338 through our village to walk to our school, to our shop, walking dogs to access footpaths, and our school children to catch school buses. The pavement is lined with walls and buildings. A vehicle travelling above 30mph mounting the pavement would be absolutely catastrophic.
