A highly respected member of the community and a figure loved by lots of children and parents around the Newbury area, Wendy, after 20 years service or more working as a lollipop lady keeping our children safe as they cross a busy road to school, could in fact lose her job as West Berkshire Council are looking to save a total of 17 million pounds in 2013/14 by cutting all funding to at least eight patrols over the West Berks area. One of these cuts will affect a local primary school and Wendy’s role in Newbury.

The crossing in question, which is set facing along a busy ( bus routed ) road named Fir Tree Lane. And without Wendy’s role in place, this would become a danger to primary-aged children as they have to cross this road to get to school,

I am a parent of three children who attend this school and I feel my children would be at greater risk when crossing the road without Wendy doing what she has done for many years now, Everyday our lollipop lady ( who is the loveliest person anyone could meet, always polite and cheery to children and parents ) and currently employed by West Berkshires Council, Is there without fail everyday in wind, rain or shine, to help children and parents cross Fir Tree Lane safely to attend school and again on the way home,

There is a proposed redundancy in 2014. This will lead to a loss of what I and many other parents at the school believe is a very valuable asset to the council, school and it's community of family's who attend the school because the burden will fall to our schools to fund these patrols, At what cost is your child’s  safety worth? The price of a lollipop lady/gents wage it seems, I was asked by other parents at the school to help set this up to try and help save our Lollipop Lady’s job.

i am kindly asking you to sign with me and I'll personally make sure every signature carry's some weight when I put this to West Berkshire Council.
Save our Lollipop Lady’s job she deserves a medal instead of redundancy!
