I attended this school, also feel this will help kids get over some of the fears they may have of job searc or getting out into the community after school.

It used to be a requirement to have x number of volunteer hours to graduate. I'm kind of glad they got rid of that (because I sucked at volunteering), but the kids who still do a lot of volunteering anyway deserve some form of recognition. At first I thought "helping the community should be its own reward" but that's not really fair. Getting into a good college is a reward for getting good grades but we still recognize honor students with gold cords at graduation.

Why wouldn't you honor someone for this? It builds amazing character and responsibility.

From a student that had over 100 documented volunteer hours my freshmen year at West Bend high school I would have loved to receive recognition at graduation rather that just a star next to my name in the program. Such a great idea Serenity!

Absolutely! What a student does for his or her community should be recognized.

I think it is a fantastic way to promote more volunteering among high school students and produce lifelong humanitarians!
